My 5 Favorite Tools to Use in the Garden

Once in a great while, you will come across a great tool to make life easier.  Just this past Christmas my sister gave me a hairdryer brush. And let me tell you! …It is AMAZING!! It drys and straightens my hair, massages my scalp, and my hair is left silky smooth!  What amazing tool have you come across that you just can’t live without??

In my garden, I’m always looking for tools that are sturdy, long-lasting, but most importantly make the job easier!  I’m going to share with you my top 5 favorite tools that I use in my gardens!

FELCO’s #2 pruners:  These pruners can cut through anything!  They are made from the finest materials in Switzerland and many horticulturalist will simply pick this brand over any other.

I use them to cut tender and woody plants. But what I honestly love about them is that they outlast any other pruners I ever had.  And if I have a problem with them, I can easily buy replacement parts.  Where can you find yourself a pair? Locally you can buy a pair at Dintelmann’s Garden Center in Belleville, IL, or if you would like to order online, click the link for FELCO’s home website

Soil Knife: Seriously...If you do any type of planting you need on of these!  They slice through any type of soil like butter and have a serrated edge so if you need to cut string or saw through some tough roots, this is definitely the tool to use!  Also, the soil knife makes digging and splitting perennials such as hostas or bearded iris’ so much easier! There are ton of brands to pick from, but my fav brand is A.M. Leonard. There are so many advantages to this knife be sure to check it out here

Irrigation:  I know you may not think this is an easy option for everyone, but it can improve your garden so much!, A little research on irrigation goes a long way.  Irrigating during our hot summers can increase production of veggie and flowers! Less stress the plants are under the easier it is for plants to bounce back from insect damage and fight off disease.  This also will save you time in the garden by skipping hand watering! Win win for everyone…Right?

There are quite a variety of irrigation types.  The two types that I prefer are tape and drip systems.  They both are efficient, but depending on your scenario will determine the type of system you will need. Here is a link to a simple system for any homeowners garden!

Looped Hoe:  If you are anything like me, it absolutely gets under your skin when you have a garden or landscape full of weeds.  Weeds can be overwhelming, eye soar, and can hinder your gardens plant growth. Traditional hoes have a hard time loosening soil and are hard on our backs.  A looped hoe allows you to stand up more and is able to cut the root system under the soil easier. My go-to brand is the AMES looped hoe. This product is worth every penny!  Check it out for yourself rid your garden of weeds with ease!! Click here for more details!

Snips:  So you can’t have enough snips.  Even though I love my FELCOs, sometimes I need something that can handle more delicate plants.  I use these to harvest, trim, and process sunflowers. These snips are also great for clipping stems while arranging flowers!  These are also my daughter’s favorite since they are smaller therefore they fit in her hand better.   These are reasonably priced and I have put them to the test.  They have not dulled or rusted the entire time I have owned them! This one you need to try out. See here for ALL the details!!

I hope you find these tools helpful in your garden!  They also make great gifts for any gardener; beginner to expert! Also having the right tool to keep your landscape nicely manicured will easily increase your home value!

I would love to see what your favorite tool you use in your garden!  Post below and I will definitely check it out! I’m always looking for new and better ways to make farm life more efficient!

See you all soon!
